On February 27, 1995, Cook County Circuit Court Judge Margaret Stanton McBride dismissed a class action suit seeking medical monitoring of police radar equipment users. Harold Blesy and five other police officers suffering from cancer filed the lawsuit against Kustom Signals Inc., MPH Industries Inc. and Decatur Electronics Inc., manufacturers of radar guns. The plaintiffs were represented by attorney Norman Rifkind of Biegel, Schy, Lasky, Rifkind, Goldberg and Fertik in Chicago. Defendant MPH industries was represented by attorney H. Patrick Morris of the Chicago firm of Johnson and Bell.
