Update, July 25, 1995: Judge Nimmons refused to reconsider his decision granting summary judgment
to defendants saying that the only new evidence the plaintiff presented was inadmissible hearsay.
A U.S. District Court judge in Tampa, Florida dismissed a lawsuit filed against NEC Corp. and a
GTE Corp. unit by a Florida man who alleged that his wife's exposure to EMFs from a portable
cellular phone caused a brain tumor that led to her death. Judge Ralph W. Nimmons Jr. said the
lawsuit against NEC, the manufacturer of the cellular phone and GTE Mobilnet, the unit of GTE
that provided Susan Ellen Reynard with the cellular service, was dismissed because of a lack of
scientific or medical research into the issue.
