A study was performed by Russian scientists to determine what types of memory and attention are the most vulnerable to geomagnetic fluctuations (GMF). A group of 15 healthy men and women (22-48 years old) were given a battery of 20 tests at intervals of 2-5 days, and results were correlated with GMFs for that day. The tests included assessment of a short-term, mechanistic, and image memory, and of the amount, intensity, and distribution of attentiveness. In 50% of the subjects, increased GMF showed a negative correlation with attentiveness and memory function; in the other 50% this correlation was positive. Worsening of memory, in general, was more pronounced than the decrease in attentiveness. Short-term memory proved to be the most vulnerable. [BENER 13727]
