Part II of the European prestandard governing human exposure to electromagnetic fields (EMFs) covers the 10-kHz to 300-GHz frequency range and is based on well-established, short-term effects which, depending on frequency, include stimulation of electrically excitable cells in nerve and muscle tissues and heating. The prestandard was approved by the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardization (CENELEC) on 30 November, 1994 as a prospective standard for its member countries to be in force for 3 yr, prior to being possibly adopted permanently.
