Neurological Sequelae to Microwave Oven Exposure

A 40-yr old woman was accidentally exposed to microwave radiation for 26 sec. She placed her right hand inside a microwave oven to verify the baking of dough. The oven had continued to work because of a security system failure. The next day she experienced multiple neurological symptoms, including intense burning pain in the right hand, which had become extremely sensitive to contact stimuli. The authors concluded that microwaves can act directly on nerves. [BENER 13345]

Can merely operating a microwave oven with the door shut in it's "normal" mode of operation, have adverse effects on the operator? I often feel light-headed and dizzy when I operate my new microwave oven. My wife does not feel any effects. Can you offer any helpful information?
