The authors presented 2 case reports of the clinical use of static repelling magnets for distalization of molars. The first patient was an 18-yr old girl complaining of midline discrepancies, esthetic problems, and pain and clicking in the right temporomandibular joint. Treatment was completed within 6.6 mo. Rapid molar movement occurred without mobility or discomfort. The second patient was an 11-yr old boy. Rapid molar distalization by the magnets had been achieved without any pathologic results. These case reports demonstrate the advantages and efficacy of small permanent magnets for achieving molar distalization. [BENER 13275]

November 23, 1998 - Terry Rogers I have done considerable research in the field of magnets and biomagnetics, especially when applied to animals and humans. According to Roy C. Davis, application of the south pole or a south pole-north-pole magnet scheme does indeed cause an aggregate south pole, or positive, charge in animal and human cells. I am very concerned about the number of companies that offer "healing" magnets to the public without offering the proper education in the use of the south pole for ANY reason. The south pole does wonders for all kinds of plant life, but it is not safe for animals and humans. Again, please be wary of any use of a south pole magnet of any gauss contacting animal or human tissue.
