The authors discussed the potential interactions between electromagnetic fields (EMFs) and cardioverter-defibrillators. They emphasized that implantable cardioverter-defibrillators that can be deactivated should not be implanted in patients likely to encounter strong EMFs. Transient inhibition does not pose as great a problem. They warned that oversensing of an electrical artifact could potentially trigger defibrillator intervention. [BENER 12854]
