The field distribution and flux density of static magnetic fields (SMFs) produced by orthodontic samarium-cobalt magnets were investigated. A clinical situation was simulated by mounting magnet pairs on a dental cast and measuring the flux densities at predetermined marked points on the cast. The authors concluded that SMFs produced by small orthodontic magnets have a very limited extent and exposures of the surrounding tissues can be assumed to be low. They regarded any risk of harmful effects resulting from clinical use of these magnets as small. [BENER 12852]

November 23, 1998 - Terry Rogers I have done considerable research in the field of magnets and biomagnetics, especially when applied to animals and humans. According to Roy C. Davis, application of the south pole or a south pole-north-pole magnet scheme does indeed cause an aggregate south pole, or positive, charge in animal and human cells. I am very concerned about the number of companies that offer "healing" magnets to the public without offering the proper education in the use of the south pole for ANY reason. The south pole does wonders for all kinds of plant life, but it is not safe for animals and humans.
